Naming the Restlessness
✦ Daily Reading
When you look at your life and feel uncertain about your future, a heavy cloud of restlessness can settle over your heart. You might feel stuck in a job that drains you, confused about which path to take next, or deeply frustrated because your life has not turned out the way you planned. In moments of major transition or career uncertainty, it is very easy to feel anxious and lost. We often try to ignore this restless feeling. We distract ourselves with endless scrolling, stay busy with daily routines, or pretend we have everything figured out so others will not judge us. But pretending only increases the quiet pressure inside you. Struggling with direction is not a personal failure, and it does not mean God has forgotten you. In the Bible, many faithful people experienced long seasons of waiting, confusion, and uncertainty before God revealed their next step. Moses spent forty years shepherding sheep in the quiet desert before God called him to lead. David waited years before stepping into his purpose as king. God welcomes your honest questions. He knows the pressure you feel to make the right decision. Notice the comforting promise in Psalm 32: God Himself promises to instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. He counsels you with His loving eye upon you. Today, give yourself permission to pause and name your restlessness. You do not have to map out your entire future before approaching God. Simply bringing your confusion and dissatisfaction to Him is the first step toward finding clarity and peace.
Psalm 32:8 — "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."
“Heavenly Father, I come to You today feeling restless and uncertain about my future. I confess that I feel stuck and confused about which direction to take next. The pressure to figure everything out weighs heavily on my mind. Thank You that You do not expect me to have all the answers. Please meet me in my restlessness today. I claim Your promise to instruct me and teach me the way I should go. Quiet my anxious thoughts and guide my steps with Your loving counsel. Amen.”
Find a quiet place today. Write down three specific uncertainties or questions you have about your future on a piece of paper, hold it in your hands, and say: "Lord, I entrust my direction to You."
