Recognizing the Cycle

Overthinking is like being on a mental treadmill. You run as fast as you can, but you stay in the exact same place. Your mind replays a past conversation over and over, wondering: "Why did I say that?" Or you worry about a future event, trying to plan for every single thing that could go wrong. It is exhausting. But please know this: overthinking does not mean you have a weak faith. It usually just means your mind is trying to keep you safe in a world that feels unpredictable. In the Bible, we meet Martha. When Jesus came to visit her house, Martha was completely overwhelmed by all her tasks and duties. The Bible says she was "distracted by all the preparations." Her mind was spinning with worries, trying to make everything perfect. Jesus did not shame her. He spoke to her with incredible gentleness, saying, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things." He saw her busy mind. He wanted her to know that she was safe with Him, even if everything wasn't perfectly finished. Today, let yourself step off the treadmill. Your Heavenly Father sees your busy mind, and He invites you to find rest in His presence.
Luke 10:41–42 — "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."
“Dear Heavenly Father, I feel so tired from the endless chatter in my mind today. I confess that I often overthink to feel in control or safe. Thank You for seeing me and speaking to me with the same gentleness You showed Martha. I want to step off the mental treadmill. Help me recognize when my thoughts are spinning in circles. Remind me that I do not have to solve everything right now. I choose to quiet my heart and rest in Your love today. Amen.”
Write down a list of the top three recurring thoughts that are currently cluttering your mind. Once written, fold the paper, put it away, and tell God, "I trust You with these."
